SunKazi is a product of Khakali Technologies SMC Ltd, a Uganda-registered technology company founded in 2019.
We started with a simple observation: millions of women run tailoring businesses across East Africa, but unreliable and expensive grid electricity costs them customers and income every single day. A solar-powered sewing machine solves this problem — but the upfront cost of USD 400–800 is out of reach for most micro-entrepreneurs. SunKazi was built to bridge that gap. We deploy solar-powered productive use equipment on PAYGo terms — small daily payments via mobile money — making ownership accessible to entrepreneurs who have never had a bank account. We launched with 28 solar sewing machines across Uganda and Rwanda, in partnership with Toto Safi (Rwanda). We are now expanding to solar irrigation pumps, refrigerators, and additional East African markets.
